Connie Lena Blount Burford

A celebration of life for Connie Lena Blount Burford will be at 3:00 Tuesday, March 29 at First Presbyterian Church, Greenville. She died Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at St. Dominic Hospital. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery.

Connie was born in Blaine on May 27, 1941, to Thomas and Thelda Fulton Blount. She will be remembered for her selfless compassion for others and her love of fine arts. She was a true “Southern Lady” who loved fishing, quilting and flowers. She began her professional career at Mainstream Shipyard and continued to work around the towboat and river industry currently working at Warfield Point and Associates. She and her husband, Edwin Burford of 53 years, met at Porter Printing Company and later founded Burford Brothers Printing Company with O.B and Jack, brothers of Edwin. As a member of First Presbyterian Church she devoted a large amount of time to the various missions like the Lighthouse Lodge, her beloved “Quilting Ladies” group and to the Women’s Circle #2. Her grandchildren were the highlight of her life and she guided them to be ambitious and try all the exciting things life has to offer and to never be afraid to try something new.

She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Hays Blount Sr. and Thelda Fulton Blount, and brother Thomas Blount, Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Edwin Burford; daughter Lena Beth (Brian) Chancey of Long Beach, MS, her son Tommy (Janet) Burford of Greenville; two special grandchildren Robyn Chancey and Will Burford; and niece Mary Helen Blount Chow (Jim).

Pallbearers will be Wesley Brown, Robin Cooper, Chuck Cooper, Don Dunaway, Danny “Bubba” Cooper and Clarence Spears. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Kerr, Clyde Jones and Bobby Morman.
