David “Buddy” Cochran

A funeral service for David Turner “Buddy” Cochran, 79, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thurs., Dec. 9, 2021, at Avon United Methodist Church under the direction of Boone Funeral Home.He passed away Dec. 6, 2021.

Buddy was born May 29, 1942, in Hollandale, Miss., to Hiram and Florence Cochran. He was actively engaged in farming until his death and served as president of Avon Gin, Inc.  Buddy was an advocate for the cotton industry throughout his career,serving as a Mississippi delegate to the National Cotton Council and as a member of the Cotton Advisory Board of Delta Council. He was honored in 2009 as the Ginner of the Year by the Southern Cotton Ginners Association. He was also an innovator, having designed and built The Cotton Retriever, of which he was extremely proud.

Buddy was active in the community, serving on the board of the Farm Service Agency for 12 years and on the board of trustees of State Bank & Trust.

Buddy enjoyed devoting time to his church, where he volunteered as Sunday School teacher and as a mentor for underprivileged teenage boys.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Faye Cochran Fee.

Buddy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Jennings Cochran; his sons, David T. Cochran, Jr. (Ginny) and Marvin J. Cochran (Rachel); grandchildren, Cathy Cochran Tarr (Adam), Virginia Cochran, Miriam Cochran, and Matthew Cochran; and a great-grandson, Charlie Tarr.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials made to Avon United Methodist Church in Avon, Miss.
