Detra “DeeDee” Swafford Holloway

Graveside services for Detra “DeeDee” Swafford Holloway, 61, of Jackson, TN, and formerly of Greenville, MS will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the Greenville Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. She passed peacefully on June 5th, 2024, surrounded by friends and family.

Dee Dee was born and raised in Greenville, MS where she graduated from Greenville High School and where she would later meet her husband, James. She went on to Ole Miss to gain a degree in Special Education and would devote her career to teaching children with special needs. She taught in Pheba and Greenville, MS and completed her career in Jackson, TN before retiring after 32 years due the onset of Pancreatic Cancer.

Dee Dee loved tennis, gardening, traveling, and the beach; especially Destin FL where she and her friends went yearly if not more. She went on many hunts with her husband around the world, mostly to satisfy him, but also greatly enjoyed the hunt and the interesting places they would visit together. She was a woman of strong Christian faith and loved serving the Lord and others through her association with Faith Walk Jackson where she was a servant to those who attended. Dee Dee was full of life, beautiful, funny, always smiling, and beloved by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents John Lloyd Swafford, Jr. and Silvia Killebrew Swafford and her daughter, Johnna Cantrell Holloway.

She is survived by her Husband, Dr. James Clifton Holloway, Jr.; aunt, Janice Swafford Akers of Madison, MS; uncle, Ronald Joe Swafford (Tracy), of Cleveland, MS; brother, John Hunter Swafford, (Kristen, Jenna Kay, John Owen, and Jackson Anthony) of Greenville, MS; sister-in-law, Jayne Holloway Angelle (Blane) of Jackson, TN; nieces Lauren Strickland Hernandez (David) of Jackson, TN and Morgan Strickland (Joe, Trey, and Clifton James) of Henderson, TN; and step-mother, Marjorie Ann Hamilton of Lexington, MS.

Pallbearers to serve will be Allen Morehead, Blane Angelle, Bob Taggart, David Hernandez, Joe Danna, Larry Steckel, Sam Garris, and Tommy Sebok. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jake Easley, Laird Hamberlin, Larry Trevathan, Lee McTeer, Phillip Rogers, Sonny Melder, Sonny Sizemore, Spencer Melder, Tommy Melder, Tommy Jordan
