Graveside services for Dewey Whitney Barton, 86, of Greenville will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 17 at Leland-Stoneville Cemetery. He passed away at his home on Saturday, November 11. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
He was born in Raleigh, Tennessee (now part of Memphis), and graduated from Bartlett High School, Bartlett, Tennessee. He served in the US Army for three years during the Korean war and was stationed in England. He was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad from 1950 to 1992 and later drove vans to pick up patients for King Daughters Hospital in Greenville. He was a member of the local Masonic Lodge in Greenville and a former member of the American Legion post 32 in Greenville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Peal Barton. Survivors include three sons – Dewey Keith Barton (Kay) of Bartlett, TN., Gary Barton of LaPorte, TX; and John Barton of Atoka,TN; three sisters – Dorothy Traversino of AZ, Linda Harter of Texas, and Pat Guyer of Selmer, TN; a brother – James Robert Barton of Texas; also four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
There will be a visitation from 1:00-1:30 p.m. at Boone-Smith Funeral Home, 1580 S. Colorado, Greenville, MS .
