Memorial services for Donald Gregory Southerland, 79, of Greenville will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Friday, May 19 at his home. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Don was born on October 9, 1937 in Tuscaloosa, AL to Johnny and Ruby Roberson Southerland. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. In 1963 he moved to Greenville with the Paramount Theatre and retired from Mebane Packaging in 1995. Don loved his family and daily trips to visit friends. He was an avid fisherman.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Cox. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, May Southerland; 2 sons, Greg Southerland (Sandy) and Mike Southerland and a daughter, Lisa Lester; sister, Mary Crutchfield; 6 grandchildren, Clayton Southerland, Brandi Southerland, James Jones (Stacey), Michael Southerland, Sissy Southerland and Haley Smith (Jeff); and 3 great grandchildren, Brayden Smith, Connor Allison and Kailyn Jones; and a host of nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
