Doris Brackeen

A graveside service for Doris Annette Gower Brackeen, also known as “Grum”, 83, will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, December 10th, 2021 at Stoneville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home. She passed away December 9th, 2021surrounded by her family.

Annette was born on December 30th, 1937, in Leland, MS, to M. L. and Golden Gower. After graduating Leland High School, she was a secretary for many businesses but among her favorites was Petit Agricultural Services where she worked for more than twenty years. She was also co-owner of Lee’s Hardware and Farm Supply with her husband, M. A. “Lee” Brackeen Sr. in Hollandale. She was also an active member of Parkview Baptist Church in Leland serving as the director of music for over fifty years. The church recognized Annette for her tireless, cheerful, and dedicated service to the Lord and His people in 2007. Annette also was a great supporter of the Deer Creek School system in Arcola and was awarded the Norton Miller Spirit Award in 2012. Annette had a servant’s heart and spent her life serving her church, family, and community. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, M. L. and Golden Gower, and her brother, M. L. (Doris) Gower Jr. Annette is survived by her husband of 65 years, M. A. “Lee” Brackeen Sr.; her son, M. A. “Lee” (Lacie) Brackeen Jr.; her daughter, Deedra B. (Julian) Fontana; her sisters, Mildred G. (Junior, dec.) Zeigler and Frances G. (John, dec.) Read; her grandchildren, Arlayna B. (Cameron) Moss, Michaela L. Fontana (Timothy Stone), AnaleeB. (Peyton) Ryals, M. A. “Tripp” Brackeen III, Mattie Grace Arrington, and Myles Cooper Arrington; and a great-grandson, Caleb Eston Moss. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other family members. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests for memorials to be made to The Baptist Children’s Village.
