Dorothy Madelyn Bland was born on September 26, 1922 in Houston, MS to Gladys Ashby and George Dewey Bland.  “Dot” grew up in Texas and different parts of Mississippi, including Skene and Hampton.  On June 8, 1941, following graduation from Hollandale High School, she married Harris Bailey Peyton, Sr.  At that time she was employed by Mississippi Power and Light Company in Hollandale.  In 1955 she joined her husband in business at Peyton’s Appliance Company, also in Hollandale, where they worked together until his death in 1995.

She was a member of Hollandale Baptist Church where she served for over sixty years teaching Sunday School, Training Union, and serving in various other capacities.  She was very active in the Young at Heart community church group.  She was an avid sports fan who seldom missed her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s athletic events.  She was a founding member of the Delta Garden Club.  Her life revolved around her faith, her family, her church, her friends, and laughter.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Harris Bailey Peyton, Jr.  She leaves a son, Bland Shelton Peyton, daughter, Suzanne Peyton Potter (Thad), daughter-in-law, Julia Stone Peyton, six grandchildren, Thaddeus Shelton Potter, Emmett Peyton Potter (Rebecca), Bryan Stone Peyton (Jenna), John Harrison, Olivia Katherine, and Anne Bailey Peyton, six great-grandchildren, Riley Peyton, Madelyn Delle, Jacob Harris, and Thaddeus Lathan Potter, and Bailey Gilbert and Katherine Louise Peyton.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.  In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to Hollandale Baptist Church, Deer Creek School, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or to your favorite charity.  The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Magnolia Garden’s, Sta-Home Health, Grace Hospice, and her many sitters for their excellent care over the last eight months.
