Dorothy Marie Haire Whitt

Graveside services for Dorothy Marie Haire Whitt, 83, a long-time resident of Greenville will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 22 at Lakeview Gardens. She died Wednesday, July 19 at Washington Care Center after a lengthy illness. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home.  

Marie was born in 1934 in Bruce, MS and moved to Greenville with her husband in 1960. She played an active part in the community where she owned the Whitt’s Pet Shop on Hwy 82. With her love of dogs, she soon became a well known dog breeder and groomer for Maltese and Poodles and eventually the breeder of many champion showdogs. 

Marie loved socializing, enjoyed dancing and collecting antiques. She had a wonderful laugh that could light up a room. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Ray Whitt, son, Jimmy Whitt, daughter Frances Whitt Sutton, parents, Lonnie Haire and Bernice Tutor Haire, 2 sisters, Kaye Getty and Shirley Eads and by 2 brothers, Roy Haire and Benny Haire. 

She is survived by 2 sons, Cliff Whitt and Billy Whitt; 2 daughter-in-laws, Ruby Whitt Henson and Karen Whitt; 5 sisters, Martha Pearl Miller, Louise Swindel, Linda Willis, Paula Gilson and Jeanette White; 11 grandchildren, Jimbo Whitt (Brooke), Jeffrey Whitt, Alan Whitt (Carrie), Regina Hope Kearney (Rick), Angie Hope Rhodes (Keith), Christopher Whitt, Lauren Whitt Segall (Blake), Emily Whitt, Tabita Whitt, Ashley Whitt and Jamie Whitt; 9 great grandchildren, Zachary Roberts, Chloe Rhodes, Dalton Whitt, Courtney Whitt, Montana Kearney, Braden Kearney, Billy Whitt, Jr., Ryder Whitt and Baker Whitt.
