Graveside services for Dorothy Ritchey Byrd, 82, of Greenville, MS will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Wintergeen Cemetery in Port Gibson, MS. There will be a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home in Greenville. She went to her heavenly home March 1, 2025. Pastor Anthony Prestage will officiate the service.
Dorothy was born May 6, 1942 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Robert Lawrence Ritchey and Mary Vittitow Ritchey. She was raised in Port Gibson, MS where she met her husband, Robert Douglas Byrd, who attended school across the street from their home. They married July 1, 1962 and lived in Greenville, MS. They spent the last several years of his life, enjoying one another by traveling and seeking out lighthouses around the US. They were married for 53 years.
Dorothy valued faith and family and helping others along the way. She obtained her accounting degree and prepared taxes for several years. She enjoyed teaching kids and adults to read, served in various areas in her church, enjoyed her cats, and enjoyed making birthdays and holidays special for her family. She was a woman of integrity who loved hard and well. Dorothy will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Douglas Byrd, her parents Robert and Mary Ritchey and her brother Robert “Bob” Ritchey. Dorothy is survived by her son Robert Ritchey Byrd of Greenville, MS, her daughter Mary “Beth” Byrd Prestage and her husband Anthony Prestage of Columbus, MS and her sister Lynda and her husband Robert Hodge of St. Petersburg, Florida.
