Funeral services for Dot Ruth Skelton, 86, of Leland will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. She passed away Saturday, July 7 after a short illness. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
Dot was born November 14, 1931, in Blaine, Mississippi. She graduated from Hollandale High School in 1950. She was active in the Woodman of the World Lodge for many years. She was also a member of the Good Timers with the First Baptist Church in Leland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon D. Skelton and her parents, Richard Walter Davis and Geneva Ann Davis.
Dot was a housewife for most of her life and raised five children. She is survived by her children, Jerry Williams (Beth) of Cartersville, GA, Cathy Utz (Jimmy) of Clarksdale, Donna Horton (Dewitt) of Avon, Susan Filgo (Bruce) of Cleveland, and Vernon D. Skelton, Jr. (Janet) of Leland, ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. Pallbearers are, Pete Skelton, Bruce Filgo, Jr., Trey Horton, Dalton Bell, Steven Haire and Jared Johnson.
