Edwin Burford

Funeral services for Edwin Burford, 84, of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. He passed away on Tuesday May 30,2017. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. 

Edwin was born in Cary, MS on September 2, 1932 to Onnie Braxton and Nell Erwin Burford. He graduated from Greenville High School and then served in the US Navy on the USS Midway aircraft carrier for 3 years. Edwin was married to Connie Blount Burford for 52 years. In 1966, Edwin and his two older brothers, O.B. and Jack, opened Burford Brothers printing. He enjoyed a career as a printer and typesetter until his retirement. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a Boy Scout leader, and T-ball coach. He loved to roller skate, fish, hunt, and camp outdoors (campfire stories were his absolute joy). Edwin could always be heard whistling and was a true quiet Southern gentleman. 

Edwin is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and wife. He is survived by his two children, Lena Beth Chancey and her husband Brian; Tommy Burford and his wife Janet; his two grandchildren, Robyn Chancey and Will Burford; and many nieces and nephews. 

The family wishes to thank Vicki, Dorothy and Kim for their kind care of Edwin this last year. 

There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, MS.
