A celebration of the life of Elizabeth Anne Barrett Robertson, 83, of Indianola, Mississippi will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 12, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, Indianola, Mississippi. She passed away Friday, April 10, 2015 at South Sunflower County Hospital, Indianola, Mississippi.
Anne was born on July 28, 1931 in Indianola, Mississippi to Johnson Noel Barrett and Mavis Brister Barrett. She graduated from Indianola High School and attended Mississippi State College for Women where she was a member of Rogue Social Club. Anne graduated from the University of Alabama and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She married James Cooke Robertson on August 15, 1953.
Anne was involved in many church and civic activities throughout her life. Most important to her was her church, First United Methodist of Indianola. She was a long-time member of the Swartz-Ward Sunday School class, former president of the United Methodist Women, and member of the Administrative Board. She was a faithful Sunday School teacher in the Junior Department for 35 years and began the Bible Memory program in 1986 which still continues today. Anne traveled to Honduras with the Rose/Wood mission team. She, along with her church circle, enjoyed preparing lunch for the Indianola Rotary Club for over 50 years.
Anne was proud of her Girl Scout Troop which she started with a group of second grade girls and continued on through their high school graduation. She also enjoyed taking her grandchildren on trips throughout the United States.
She was a loving servant of God, and her family was blessed to have her as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
She is survived by her faithful husband of 61 years, James Cooke Robertson. She is also survived by her children, Irene Robertson Long (Lawrence), Betty Barrett Robertson Rogers (Denton), Susan Robertson Allen (David) and James Cooke Robertson, Jr., (Elyette); eleven grandchildren of whom she is most proud; Elizabeth Long Friary (Richard), Will Long, Margaret Ross Long, Christopher Polk, Anne Barrett Polk Hazard (Matt), Laura Polk, Mary Chandler Allen, Baird Allen, James C. Robertson, III, John Thomas Robertson and Mary Nelson Robertson and two great grandchildren, Henry and Anne Friary; sister, Doris Barrett Fisackerly (Howard); two brothers, Charles William Barrett (Libby) and Richard Noel Barrett (Rebecca) and sister-in-law, Frances Scott Robertson. Many nieces and nephews also mourn her loss.
