Funeral mass for Eugene Edward Grassi, 75, of Greenville and formerly of Lake Village will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 27, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Greenville. He died Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Delta Regional Medical Center. Burial will be in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church Cemetery, Lake Village under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Gene was born in Lake Village, AR the only child of Geno and Mary DeAngelo Grassi. He graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School and received his diploma at Lakeside High School. Gene served with the Arkansas and Mississippi National Guard as a medic. He was baptized and raised in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Village and later was married to his wife, Juanita Langley at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Greenville where they attended and raised their three children. He had attended Barber college in Memphis, TN and then returned home where he owned and operated Gene and Warren’s Barber and Style Shop until 1977. It was then that he and his wife purchased the Cow Pen Restaurant in Lake Village. Working together and being able to serve and meet many people was the joy of their lives. Their employees became their extended family. They retired in 2007 and moved to Greenville.
He was an avid sportsman and was a member of Lakeport Hunting Club where he loved to hunt with his father, sons and later his grandson. He loved to fish and enjoyed gardening with his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Juanita Grassi of Greenville; a daughter, Cindy Bennett (Steve) of Greenville; 2 sons, Ed Grassi (Tamie) of Lake Village and Greg Grassi of Greenville; 4 grandchildren, Mary Frances Bennett of Jackson, Christina Marie Bennett of Clinton, Eddie Grassi of Lake Village and Katelyn Grassi Wilson (Ross) of Germantown, TN; and a great grandson, Noah Allen Wilson of Germantown, TN.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
