Ferne Nixon Little Hutcherson passed away on April 13, 2021 in Indianola, MS. She was born on October 2, 1924 in Lavaca, Arkansas, the daughter of Hubert Harrison Nixon and Ada Belle Andrews Nixon. She graduated from Lavaca High School in 1942.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Ruth Nixon Graham and Ruby Nixon Spencer and twin brothers Harmon and Herman Nixon and her husbands, Major Opie Read Little, Jr. and Captain James Emmitt Hutcherson, Jr., and her step children Kathy Jo Hutcherson Trippe and James E. Hutcherson III.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Little Hill (Joel, Jr.) of Greenville, MS, Helen-Ruth Little Hendon (Joe) of Madison, MS and grandchildren: Allison Hill Womble (Allen) of Lafayette, LA, Stacy Hill Harb (Greg) of Knoxville, TN, Joel Hill III (Lara) of Madison, MS, Dr. Read Hendon (Lisa) of Ocean Springs, MS, John Hendon (Vera) of Ellicott City, MD and Dr. Drew Hendon of Jackson, MS and eleven great grandchildren, five nephews and one niece.
She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Indianola, MS where she had served on the Vestry, taught Sunday School and was a Past President of the Episcopal Church Women. She assisted many years with a charity duplicate bridge game at the church.
A burial will be held in Arkansas at the Fort Smith National Cemetery.
