Frances Jones Griffin

Funeral services for Frances Jones Griffin, 100, of Moorhead will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 30 at Moorhead United Methodist Church. She passed away on Sunday, November 26 at Providence Assisted Living in Grenada. Burial will be in the Moorhead Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Indianola. 

She was born on Thursday, September 13, 1917 in Boyle, MS to the late Bernie and Genie Jones. She graduated from Boyle High School and attended Draghn’s Business College in Memphis, TN. She worked as a secretary at ASCS offices and later as a U. S. Postal worker until retirement. She was a dedicated member of Moorhead United Methodist Church since 1941 where she served in many different capacities from Sunday School teacher, church treasury, and served in any needed areas. Mrs. Griffin had an intense love for her church and the town of Moorhead. After leaving her home and moving to Grenada eight years ago, her brightest moments were receiving news from her hometown. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willard Gordon “Griffin”; one sister, Nell Pitts; and her daughter-in-law, Skeetie Griffin. 

She is survived by daughter, Genie Kay Rose and her husband, Robert Lynn of Duck Hill, and her sons, W. G. Griffin and his wife, Cissy of Water Valley, John Robert Griffin of Moorhead, and Jimmy “Squeaky” Griffin of Moorhead; eight grandchildren, Chuck (Lacey) Rose of Grenada, Will (Amy) Griffin of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Jake Jenkins of Oxford, Lynn (Hank) Lane of Grenada, Lacy (Davey) Hall of Grenada, Jennie (Marcelo) Moreno of Nashville, TN, Bart (Molly) Jenkins of Red Banks, Jeff (Constance) Griffin of Water Valley; and seventeen great-grandchildren, Morgan Claire Rose, Chase Rose, Charley Rose, Katelyn Rose Fly, Anna Grace Fly, Molly Fly, Dillon Lane, Colton Lane, Logan Hall, Taylor Kate Hall, Thomas Griffin, Garrett Griffin, Griffin Moreno, Liddie Morena, Carson Jenkins, Hadley Jenkins, and West Jenkins. 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. The Rev. Veronica Pritchard and Dr. Jim Nunnelee will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Moorhead United Methodist Church.
