Fred Alton McCorkle

Funeral services for Fred Alton McCorkle, 95, of Indianola, will be at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home in Leland. There will be a visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hollandale Cemetery. He passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025, at South Sunflower County Hospital.

Fred was born on May 28, 1930, in Carroll County, MS, to William Andy and Neva Vivian Sullivan McCorkle. He attended Carrollton High School, where he played football. He was united in marriage to Jo Etta Greer on March 15, 1957, in Hollandale, MS. He worked for Twin County Electric Power Association for 39 years, holding many positions: meter reader, lineman, line foreman, assistant engineer, and branch manager in Belzoni. Fred enjoyed quail hunting for many years and also enjoyed deer and turkey hunting.

Fred and Jo retired to Salem, AR, in 1993, and after living there for 23 years, they moved to Indianola, MS.

He was preceded in death by his father, Andy McCorkle; his mother, Vivian McCorkle; three sisters, Mozella Nelms, Leneva Stewart, and Margie Mullen; and three brothers, Estes McCorkle, Charles McCorkle, and Pete McCorkle.

He leaves his wife, Jo, and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. McCorkle would like to thank his caregivers, Laura Attaway, Ruth Johnson, Debbie Drain, and Dr. Hannah Ray, as well as Grace Hospice and the nurses at South Sunflower County Hospital.
