George Michael Tonos

Funeral Mass for George Michael Tonos, 88, of Greenville will be at 11:30 a.m, Friday, August 8, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  He died Monday, August 4, 2014 at his home.  Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery with Military Honors under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mr. Tonos was a lifelong resident of Greenville where he graduated from Greenville High School.  He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 serving two tours. He was on the Putnam Ship during World War II and the USS Storm during the Korean Conflict.  After his discharge he worked with the U.S. Corp of Engineers in Magee, AR retiring in 1972.  At this time he opened Tonos Jewelers, which he owned and operated until he retired in 2010.  He was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Elmaz Fadel Tonos, 2 sisters, Emily Tonos Abide and Nora Tonos Fayad and 2 brothers, John Michael Tonos and Ford Anthony Tonos. 

He is survived by his wife, Joyce M. Tonos of Greenville; 5 daughters, Julie Joseph Chunn (Vance) of Mobile, AL, Pamela Joseph of Loganville, GA, Cecilia Joseph Devetski (Tim) of Houston, TX, Debra Tonos Sweeden (Bruce) of Alpharetta, GA and Beth Tonos Hanos of Greenville; brother, Joe Tonos (Mary Belle) of Lake Village, AR; 7 grandchildren; a special niece, Marilyn Fayad McKoin of Bonita, LA and a host of other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:30 a.m., Friday, August 8, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph School System or St. Vincent DePaul.
