Graveside services for George Richard Hamlin, 90, of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 30, 2019 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. He passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, December 27, 2019.
Richard was born to George Newton and Zola Hamlin in Greenville, MS on June 29, 1929. He is a graduate of E. E. Bass High School and an Army National Guard veteran. He married Lady Alice Maranto on January 6, 1957 from Anguilla, MS, a marriage lasting 62 years. He had a lifelong career in farming, dairy and cattle. The family dairy operation, Blocker Dairy, supplied fresh milk and butter to the local community from the 1920’s through the 1960’s. He farmed well into his 80’s. Richard and Lady were avid square-dancing partners and participated in statewide dancing activities for over a decade.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, George and Zola as well as his two sisters Laverne (Bunny) Nations, and Lois Hamlin.
Richard is survived by his wife, Lady Alice and his four daughters Leslie Davidson (Bill) of Greenville, Tracy Hamlin (John Harrington) of New Orleans, Julia Melton (Ron) of Carrollton and Donna Beliech (Ron) of Brandon; also his six grandchildren Matthew Davidson of Sterling City, TX, William Davidson (Brittany) of Lake Charles, LA, George Reed Davidson of Lake Charles, LA, Olivia Harrington of Springdale, AR, Alison Harrington of Tucson, AZ, and Richard Chase Rippee (Stephanie) of Carrollton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Vincent DePaul.
