Memorial services for George William Stone, Jr., 72, of Starkville and formerly of Hollandale will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 29, 2022 at St. James Catholic Church in Leland. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
George William Stone, Jr. was born in Greenville on December 10, 1949 and he peacefully passed away into the arms of Our Father on August 24, 2022. He graduated from St Joseph Catholic School in Greenville in 1967 and then attended Mississippi State University and up until his retirement he was a marine surveyor for 20 plus years with Budwine and Associates. He was most importantly a loving father and “Pops” to his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted Catholic and a member of the St Joseph Catholic Church of Greenville and St James Catholic Church of Leland communities.
George had a huge heart and loved his family. His children and his grandchildren were his whole world, and he was immensely proud of them and their accomplishments. He loved his friends too and he never met a stranger. He made everyone feel at ease with his larger-than-life personality. In only a short period of time, he would know your life history and would be genuinely invested in your story. He had a way of making you feel seen, no matter how many other people were in the room. In his early years he loved spending time on the water and always enjoyed socializing with his friends and family on Lake Washington. George was an avid Mississippi State bulldog fan. He loved all things music, concerts, and dancing. He loved to travel and was always up for a good time.
Preceding him in death are his parents, George William Stone, Sr. and Mary Louise Shanahan Stone of Chatham, MS.
George is survived by his son, George “Trey” William Stone, III and wife Amber of Brandon and their children Whitley, Kennedy, and Landry; as well as his daughter Mary “Elizabeth” Stone Grimes and her husband Ted of Starkville.
He is also survived by his siblings, Julie Peyton, Ann (Dan) McCaskill, Paul Stone; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and also his aunt Paula Goller of Ohio and uncle Dan Shanahan of Louisiana.
He will be greatly missed by his loving family and always remembered in their hearts.
They are sincerely grateful to the many loved ones who have given their support and comfort during this time.
There will be a visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Monday prior to the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations can be made to St James Catholic Church Scholarship Fund of Leland MS; PO Box 352, Leland MS 38756.
