Georgette Helen Moses Petro born May 6th, 1928, passed away Wednesday April 16th, 2025, at the age of 96, in her home in Leland, MS. Georgette was born and raised in Vicksburg, MS. She married Emile Anthony Petro Sr. on February 12th, 1950, and moved to Leland, MS to raise her family. Georgette was a loving and cherished mother, grandmother, and friend. Georgette was known by many over the years and loved by all. Her house was “Grand Central Station” of Leland, and her kitchen was home to everyone. The stories and memories at 517 E Third St are a legacy that will live in the hearts of so many that she loved.
Georgette worked for 38 years as a secretary at the Delta Branch Experiment Station. She was dedicated to her job and coworkers, but never let that come before her pride and joy, which was her family. A doting mom until her last breath, she would say her four children were her greatest accomplishments in life. She continued that love by pouring it into her three grandchildren every chance she had. Late nights playing rook, ice cream sundaes at 2 am, laughing until tears, all created a “secret” Mamaw’s house fun that left an indelible mark in their lives that will bring smiles far beyond today’s tears.
Her love was felt by everyone. It was in her home the moment you walked through the door. It was cooked in the food she served to everyone that sat in her kitchen. It was the absolute best thing about her, and all will miss her on this side of Heaven. She is rejoicing today with the ones that loved her along the way that now call Heaven home, especially her husband Emile and beloved son, Michel John Petro. She had a special love for her caretaker and friend Jessie Robinson, who was with her for her last 9 years on this earth.
Georgette is survived by her children Emile Anthony Petro Jr. and his wife Angie, Suzanne Petro Cummins and her husband Teddy, and Muriel Petro Greer and her husband Louis. She was the loving grandmother to Emile Anthony (“Trey”) Petro III and his wife Leslie, John Tyson Greer and his wife Jan, and Leslie Renee Sanders and her husband Corey. She adored her six great-grandchildren: Austin, Jack, Crosby, Helen, John, and Moses.
