Memorial services for Gerald M. “Gerry” Brophy, 94, of Indianola will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2023 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Indianola followed by visitation and reception in the Parish Hall. He passed away at his home in Indianola, Mississippi, on January 12, 2023.
Gerry was born April, 16, 1928, in Hattiesburg, to James Michael and Exa Arrington Brophy. He grew up in Hattiesburg and after graduation Gerry attend the University of Mississippi. He left Ole Miss the Spring of his freshman year to enlist in the Navy. Gerry went through Naval training in Norfolk, VA, and served on the U.S.S. Norton Sound. After his discharge, he attended and graduated from Southern Mississippi. During his lifetime, Gerry became an accomplished duplicate bridge player, an instrument trained pilot, and a champion golfer. Gerry entered his career in broadcasting in Meridian and in 1974 he moved to Indianola to work at WNLA and later became the station owner. After a successful career in broadcasting, he retired in 2007 to travel and enjoy his remaining years with his ONLY true love and wife of 63 years,Marge (Margery Holladay of Meridian, MS).
Gerry was preceded in death by both parents, John Michael and Exa Arrington Brophy; all seven of his siblings; his son, Kevin David Brophy; and his wife, Margery Brophy. He is survived by his daughter, Erin Gilbow (Mike), granddaughter Lesley Moore (Trey), and great-grandchildren Parker and Lucy Moore.
