Gertrude Griffin Brown

Funeral services for Gertrude Griffin Brown, 98, of Moorhead were at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Moorhead Baptist Church. She died Monday, November 18, 2013 at Highland Home in Ridgeland where she was recovering from congestive heart failure complications.  Burial was in Moorhead Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Card Funeral Home, Indianola.

Mrs. Brown was born in the hills of Mississippi around Ackerman, on June 18, 1915.  When she was five her family moved to Moorhead to farm.  After marrying A.P. Brown, she returned to Moorhead in 1952 to the family farm and was living there until her recent hospitalization. Mrs. Brown was a member of Moorhead Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school secretary for many years.  She was well known for her made from scratch chocolate pies and her prolific skills at crocheting afghans, which were loved by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, Edgar and Adeline Griffin, and by the following brother and sisters, Russell Griffin, Everette Griffiin, Arlie Shurden, Zelma Reeves, Grady Griffin, Troy Griffin, Eula Matthews and Beulah Sheffield.  She is survived by her only child, Dianne Brown of Ridgeland, 2 sisters, Kathleen Snyder of Collierville, TN and Jenelle Matthews of Memphis, TN and by many wonderful nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home, Indianola.
