Funeral services for Guy C. Pearson, Sr., 90, of Leland will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 5 at First Baptist Church, Leland. He died Wednesday, February 3 at Baptist Memorial in Jackson. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery.
Guy was born in Crystal Springs, MS to Ceria and Lula Bowen Pearson. He attended Drew High School and while still in high school he was drafted into the U. S. Marine’s. He served during World War II in the South Pacific. After his discharge he returned home and attended Sunflower Junior College (now Mississippi Delta Community College and then graduated from Delta State University. He taught math at Leland High School and then was in the insurance business.
Guy started Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Indianola Memorial Gardens and Riverside Memorial Gardens in Indianola. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Leland where he taught Sunday school.
He is survived by his wife Betty Ann “Pinky: Pearson of Leland; son, Guy C. Pearson, Jr. of Fayetteville, AR; daughter, Mary Ann Dearman of Byram, MS; half brother, Grady Pearson of Means, KY; and 5 grandchildren, Alexandra Pearson, Matthew Pearson, John Dearman, Payne Dearman and Rachel Dearman.
There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Leland.
