Funeral services for Harriette Gildart Skates, 84, of Avon, MS will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville with a visitation at 1:00 p.m. She passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023, surrounded by her family. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Harriette was born December 27, 1938, in Greenville MS. The daughter of Benjamin and Thelma Gildart. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville MS.
She graduated from Greenville High School in 1957 and attended MSCW during which time she met William C. Skates, Jr., who attended Mississippi State University. They were married on December 28, 1958, and made their home in Avon MS, where he farmed for many years.
Harriette was fondly called “Tutsie” by friends and family. She was very artistically talented as well in floral design. Also, she was very involved in her four children’s activities.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William “Judge” Skates Jr. She is survived by her children, Andrea White (Barry) of Memphis Tn.; Stephanie Warren (Doug) of Madison MS; William “Bill” Skates (Lynda) of Greenville; and Celeste Milbrand (Robbie) of Cleveland MS; eight grandchildren, Jordan Steen (Dave), Lenoir Andrus, Tyler White, Claire Phillips (Wade), Winn House (Abby), Douglas Warren, Clark House and Zach Skates; and six great-grandchildren.
