Helen Pigford Kirk

Funeral services for Helen Pigford Kirk, 93, a lifelong resident of Greenville will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 28, 2015 at St. James Episcopal Church. She died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at University Medical Center after suffering a fall the day before at her home. Burial will be in the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. 

Mrs. Kirk was born November 11, 1921 to Louise and Maurice Pigford in Meridian, MS. She attended the University of Mississippi where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. It was there that she met her now deceased husband, John Wortham Kirk of Greenville. 

As a young wife and mother in Greenville, Mrs. Kirk was actively involved as a member of the Junior Auxiliary and as a board member of both the Bachelor’s Club and the Greenville Garden Club. She was also an avid gardener and communicant of St. James Episcopal Church. 

Her greatest love however were her children and grandchildren to whom she was devoted. Mrs. Kirk leaves two children, her daughter Susan Kirk Cook and her husband Kevin of Greenville and her son, John Pigford Kirk and his wife Lucy, of Pine Bluff, AR. She also leaves her three grandchildren, Maury Smith Mitchell and her husband Tim of Atlanta, GA, John Powers Kirk and his wife Cindy of Oxford, MS, and Eben Wortham Kirk of Memphis, TN and great grandchildren, Kirk Spinelli and Alex Spinelli of Atlanta. Mrs. Kirk also leaves one sister, Hazel Pigford Harper of Meridian, MS. 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services in the St. James room at the church.
