Graveside services for Howard Paul “Buster”Lewis, 74, of Greenville, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Greenville Cemetery. There will be a reception after the service at the family home.
He was born on September 7, 1950, in Clarksdale, MS. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 10, 2025.
Buster was the son of Jonathan Roy (Pete) and Carrie Lee Blaylock Lewis.
Buster and his family moved to Greenville in 1962, where he graduated from Greenville High School in 1968 and later Delta State University in 1972. He served in the Mississippi Army National Guard.
He married his high school sweetheart, Sally ”Pi” Percy Lewis, and they shared a life together for 55 years.
Buster’s passions were his family, farm, and community. He was a successful farmer for over 50 years. He was an avid runner, spending many hours running on the levee, and enjoyed golfing. His devotion to his community was evident in his more than three decades of board service of the Hodding Carter Memorial YMCA, serving as President in 2015. Buster’s greatest joy was spending time with his sons and their families.
Buster was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Jonathan Roy “Pete” Lewis Jr., and a special uncle James Benoit Blaylock. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pi, and his sons Robert Pratt (Kathryn) Lewis and William Hunt (Justin Schultz) Lewis; grandchildren, Mary Pratt, Elia Rose, Robert Joseph and Sarah Jane Lewis; sister Beverly Lewis Coleman; sister-in-law Phinizy Percy (Gregg) Sheets, and brothers-in-law William Alexander (Lisa) Percy and LeRoy Pratt (Ami) Percy, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Chandra McGinnis for her unwavering support for the last several years and his medical team at the Delta Health Systems.
Pallbearers will be Donny Adams, Fred Barnes, Clainy Bowman, Paul Holland, Don Morris, and Bland Peyton.
Memorials may be made to the Hodding Carter Memorial YMCA.
