Funeral services for James A. Jones, 83, of Lake Village will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 12 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Thursday, December 10 at his home.
Mr. Jones was a native of Itta Bena, MS attending school at Linn and Shaw public schools. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge he made his home in Greenville where he was employed with Kroger for 10 years. In 1962 he started his own business, Jones Meat Market retiring in 1993. He served as Washington County Coroner for 2 terms (9 years), was a Washington County Deputy Sheriff and served on the Washington County Civil Defense.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Jessie Lee Jones, 1 sister, 5 brothers and a son, James David Jones. He is survived by his wife Yvonne R. Jones of Lake Village; 4 sons, Timothy Michael Jones of Loogootee, IN, Jeffrey Allen Jones of Courtland, MS, Thomas Lamar Jones of Houston, TX and Anthony Dale Jones of Houston, TX; 11 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
