James B. (Jim) Arnold, Jr. ,85, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Mississippi. The visitation will occur on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford (601 Commerce Parkway, Oxford, Mississippi, 38655). The graveside service celebrating his life will occur on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 3:30 PM in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery in Leland, Mississippi.
Jim Born September 6, 1938, at Kings Daughters Hospital in Greenville, Ms. To James B. Arnold, Sr., and Ida Kate Pack Arnold. Jim Grew up in Leland, Mississippi.
He graduated from Leland High School, Class of ’56. Jim continued his studies and graduated from the University of Mississippi, class of ’60. However, the University of Mississippi was not his last stop in pursuing higher education. He went on to study at Columbia Presbyterian Seminary but changed his career path and graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science.
Jim Served in the U.S. Army, Mississippi Air National Guard, and U.S. Air Force Reserve. He worked for several years in banking before joining the staff of Boone Funeral Home, serving at the Leland and Greenville locations. Jim would later join the staff at Greenwood-Mount Olivet-Arlington Funeral Home in 1982 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Upon his retirement from funeral service, Jim relocated to Oxford, Mississippi, in 2011. He was an active member of St.Peter’s Episcopal Church, Newcomers Club, and Leisure Lifestyles Exercise Class in Oxford. Active in several Churches in Fort Worth and Code Blue Neighborhood Patrol in Fort Worth.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James B. Arnold, Sr., and Ida Kate Pack Arnold, and fur babies Tiger, Junior, Scruffy, Pepper, Pierre, Jake, and Casper.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carolynn Jennings Arnold of Oxford, Mississippi, one brother, Joe Pack Arnold of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and several nieces and nephews.
