James E. Bennett

Memorial services for James E. Bennett, 63, of Greenville, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, Greenville. He died on Tuesday August 21, 2018 at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mr. Bennett was born on June 6, 1955. He was the son of the late James Eston Bennett Jr. and the late Bess Bennett Beckham of Leland. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Mississippi State University and a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Denver. Mr. Bennett practiced in Memphis, TN where he was the tax manager for Deloitte Haskins & Sells for 8 years.  He met his wife, Beverly, in Memphis and they married August 25, 1984. In 1986, he returned to the Delta and opened his own practice.

Mr. Bennett was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, serving on the session and also serving on committees for the Presbytery of St. Andrew. He served on the board of the YMCA and United Way for many years. Mr. Bennett was a lifelong fan of the Mississippi State Bulldogs and Miami Dolphins, never missing a game. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed duck hunting and fishing. Some of his fondest memories were those spent with his buddies and his son on a boat.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Bennett, of Greenville; his daughter, Laura Bennett, of Philadelphia, PA; his son, Josh Bennett, of Starkville; his sister, Bess Moss, of Leland; and his nephews, James and Cameron Moss, of Leland.

Emmette Goodrich, Darrell Livingston, Wiltz Ledbetter, Robert St. John, John Takerer (brother-in-law), Cameron Moss and James Moss will serve as pallbearers.
