Funeral services for James Earl Evans, 85, of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 21 at Boone-Smith Funeral Home, 1580 S. Colorado. He died Monday, December 18 at Delta Regional Medical Center. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
He was born in Trion, GA where he attended school. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. After his discharge he married Sylvia Reynolds. They made their home in Georgia and moved to Clinton, MS in 1965 where he was employed at Southern Carton Company also known as Consolidated Packaging. They then moved to Greenville in 1979 where he became the plant manager at Mebane Packaging and worked until his retirement. Mr. Evans was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia in 2013. He is survived by two daughters, Robin E. French of Brandon and Angie E. McGaugh of Leland; a son, Randall James Evans of Xenia, OH; four brothers, Fate Evans of Cropwell, AL, Michael “Mackie” Evans of Villa Rica, GA, Willard Evans of Villa Rica, GA and Kenneth Evans of Kennesaw, GA; three sisters, Phyllis Pritchard of Bremen, GA, Scarlett Padgett of Bremen, GA and Dale McPhearson of Temple, GA; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
