James Harold Hightower

Funeral services for James Harold Hightower, 92, of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 23 at First United Methodist Church. He died peacefully on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in Greenville with family by his side. Burial will be in the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. 

Jim was born on September 22, 1925 in Mebane, NC. He was employed in the grocery business for most of his life. He worked for 25 years in Virginia for Colonial Stores. In 1965, he moved his family to Greenville, MS to begin a new career with Lewis Grocer Company in Indianola. He retired in 1989. 

Jim was married for 58 years to the love of his life, his wife, Margaret Pritchett Hightower. He was truly “one of a kind”. He had the ability to repair almost anything or build anything he set his mind on doing. In the 1980’s he built an airplane in his spare time and enjoyed flying in it with his wife. 

Jim was a long time member of First United Methodist Church in Greenville. He proudly served in the U. S. Army during World War II. 

Jim was preceded in death by his his father, Henry Walter Hightower; his mother, Correnna Jobe Hightower; his wife, Margaret Pritchett Hightower; his sister, Florence Abernathy; his brother, Bill Hightower; and his brother, Bobby Hightower. 

Survivors include his sister Nell Copley of Richmond, VA; his son Bill Hightower (Brenda) of Austin, TX; his daughter Peggy Beckman (Bill) of Fallon, NV; his son, Steve Hightower of Greenville, MS; his son; Kenny (Cindy) of Mobile, AL; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Greenville, 402 Washington Avenue, Greenville, Mississippi.
