James “Jimmy” William Carroll, Jr.

Funeral services for James “Jimmy” William Carroll, Jr., 57, of Hollandale will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Delta Health The Medical Center on Saturday, September 16, 2023.  Burial will follow at the Leland-Stoneville Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

Born in Greenville on July 25, 1966, Jimmy was the “runt” of Martha and James “Sonny” William Carroll, Sr.  He lived his whole life in Hollandale where he attended Riverside High School.

Jimmy had a reputable career as a very skilled auto mechanic, but he could work on anything from a weed eater to a helicopter. He was always covered in grease and loved talking cars. He worked his early years at Mid-South Alternator in Greenville and eventually opened his own business, Carroll’s Alternator and Starter Services.

Jimmy enjoyed working with his hands. He loved working on cars, going hunting, shooting and collecting guns, and taking his girls riding through the refuge. His absolute favorite thing in the world was spending time playing with his grandchildren.

Jimmy was a wonderful girl dad and made sure his girls were spoiled. Even as adults he made sure they always got Valentine’s Day and Easter gifts. He also raised them to be tough and independent. He made sure they could change a flat tire, check their oil, replace tail lights, and many other life skills. The word “no” was not in Jimmy’s vocabulary when it came to his girls.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his nephew Charles Carroll. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 28 years, Julie McGehee Carroll; his daughters, Caitlin Carroll Schlatter (Matthew) of Indianola, Amber Nicole Carroll (Nate) of Indianola, and Sallie Carroll Silvers (Matthew) of Hollandale; his grandchildren, Elizafaye Carroll and Holt Schlatter; and his brother, Billy Carroll (Patty) of Hollandale. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be John Handly, Daniel Humphrey, Bryan Lumley, John Roberson, Johnny Sims, and Tommy Sims. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Ingram, Jr. and William Sykes.

There will be a visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday at Boone Funeral Home.
