James Ottis Rushing

Graveside services for James Ottis Rushing, 71, of Darlove, MS will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 9 at Belzoni City Cemetery. He passed away unexpectedly December 6, 2024. Services are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland. 

Jim was born on August 4, 1953, in Biloxi, MS at Keesler Airforce Base. He started a lifelong career in electronics and communications at the tracking station in Hollandale, MS. He continued this path alongside his father with their business, Rushing Communications, Inc. Jim was a gentle giant with a heart of gold. His happiness truly came from loving those closest to him and always searching for little ways to brighten their days. He loved the Lord and never failed to leave his little religious scripture coins and cards with everyone he met. He had an adventurous spirit which led him to enjoy his daring hobbies of skydiving and tower climbing for years and to travel extensively throughout the world.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, O.W. “Dutch” and Amelia Rushing, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. (Ann) G.C. Horton and Mr. and Mrs. (Gladys) O.W. “Tom” Rushing, and brother, Tom Rushing. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Billie Marie Homod Rushing, sister, Jo Miller (Charlie, deceased), brother in Christ, Ted Harris, brother, Sam (Di) Rushing, children, Layla (Hugh) Armistead and Nichole (Doug) Smyly, grandchildren Carson (Anna) Smyly, Cameron Smyly, Lexi Smyly, Ben Armstrong, Jack Armstrong, and Trenton Armstrong, and three great-grandsons.
