Funeral services for James Phillip Bridges, 88, of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 8, 2014 at Cornerstone Baptist Church. He died Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at University Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson. Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Mr. Bridges was born in Benoit, MS and attended Drew public schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 serving in the Northern Atlantic and Eastern Pacific on the USS Charles E. Brannon during World War II. After his discharge on April 4, 1947 he made his home in Greenville. He was a salesman for Henderson & Baird Company and also Parker Sales Hardware Company. For the past 17 years he was the manager of the Golf Pro Shop at the Greenville Country Club. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church formerly Parkview Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife, Artis S. Bridges of Greenville; daughter, Lynda B. Morgan of Waxahachie, TX; son, James P. Bridges, Jr. of Greenville, sister, Irma Jean Thomas of Tutwiler, MS; grandson, Jamie Bridges III of Greenville and great granddaughter, Shelby Christina Bridges of Greenville.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church.
