Graveside services for James Riddell Jordan, 56, of Greenville will be at 4:00 p.m. Friday, March 31 at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Greenwood . He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 28, 2017. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
“Jim”, as he was known, was the son of Jo Anne B. Vining and Mortimer H. Jordan. He was a native of Greenwood, MS and grew up there with his siblings, Jana, Mort and Bill. Jim was fascinated by all things reptile, regularly bringing home turtles, frogs and snakes, much to the dismay of his mother and sister. Jim attended Pillow Academy and studied Aviation Technology at Golden Triangle Airport in Columbus, MS.
On December 31, 1983, Jim married the love of his life, Robin Weeks, and they remained happily married for 33 years. For many years, they have resided in Greenville, MS, where they were faithful members of Cornerstone Baptist Church. Jim and Robin were wholly devoted to each other and were a fine example of what a husband and wife should be.
Although Jim had many hobbies, his favorite thing to do was to fish. He would spend countless hours sitting on the shore with his best friend, Bobby, even if the fish weren’t biting. Jim likes to “tinker” with things and could fix just about anything. He was a volunteer fireman and worked for the Arcola Police Department at one time and he thoroughly enjoyed both.
While not a man of many words, Jim could always make people laugh, oftentimes leaving you doubled over in tears. He loved to pull pranks on people, and always had a new toy that he loved to cause mischief with. Jim had an almost child-like heart, which is part of what endeared him to the many people that loved him.
Jim was a Christian first and foremost, and loved the Lord with all his heart. Throughout all his trials, Jim never lost his faith. He was active in his church, having participated in mission trips and he was looking forward to going on another trip this summer. He was also a family man-a loving husband and father of two, and a fun and much loved son, brother and uncle. He was an important part of the lives of so many and he will be greatly missed. We take comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his mother, father and many other loved ones that went before him, and that he is completely healed and worshipping with our Savior.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Jo Anne B. Vining and Mortimer H. Jordan. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Robin Weeks Jordan, of Greenville, his son, Johnathan Jordan, of California, his daughter, Nicole Branch, of Greenwood and his grandsons, Damean and Ethan Jordan, of Washington. He is survived by his sister, Jana (Randy) Truitt, of Jackson, his brothers, Mort Jordan and Bill Jordan, both of Greenwood, his nieces, Holli Jordan and Katie (Jimmy) Manning, all of Canton, his nephews, Chad (Stephanie) Doughty, of Columbus, Matt (Avery) Truitt, of Jackson, Paul Jordan, of Greenwood, Rick Jordan, of Tupelo, Jake Jordan, of Starkville and Eastin Jordan, of Madison and his great nieces and nephew, Georgia Jordan, of Canton, Abigail Doughty, of Columbus and Rhodes Truitt, of Jackson. He is also survived by his step-father, George Vining, of Jackson, by his father-in-law, Harold Weeks, of Columbus and by his sisters-in-law, Cheryll (Joe) Doughty and Bonnie Weeks, all of Columbus.
Visitation will be Friday, March 31, 2017 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Boone-Smith Funeral Home, 1580 South Colorado, Greenville, MS. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church Send and Go Mission Fund, Greenville, MS or to Mid-South Christian College, of Memphis, TN.
