Funeral services for James Walter Nicholson, Jr., 74, of Glen Allan will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 19 at Anguilla United Methodist Church. He died Friday, March 17 at Mississippi Baptist Hospital in Jackson. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery in Glen Allan under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
He was born in Booneville, MS where he graduated high school. He then graduated from Mississippi State University and continued his education receiving his PhD from the University of Mississippi. Mr. Nicholson was a longtime educator in the State of Mississippi retiring as Superintendent of the Anguilla Public Schools. He continued his career as the Executive Director of the Delta Area Association for Improvement of Schools (DAAIS) at Delta State University.
Mr. Nicholson was a member of Anguilla United Methodist Church. He also served as District III Secretary for the Mississippi High School Activities Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane McGee Nicholson of Glen Allan; daughter, Jane Nicholson Barr (Chris) of Glen Allan; son, James W. Nicholson III (Sherri) of Auburn, AL; sister, Dr. Janice I. Nicholson, Florence, AL and 5 grandchildren, Caroline, Ben, Thomas, Walt and Ali.
There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the church
