Memorial services for James Watson Smylie, Jr., 92, of Zionsville, IN and formerly of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 28th at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. If it rains services will be moved to Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. He died March 13, 2016 in Indianapolis, IN.
Wat was born November 29, 1923 in Greenwood, MS. He graduated from Greenwood High School and attended Mississippi State University and Southwestern Louisiana College. Wat served in the U. S. Army where he was a combat veteran having served as a Radio Operator on B-20 flying missions over Japan during World War II and as an Artillery Air Observer during the Korean War. Among his military awards are the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal and ten oak clusters. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Boatman Smylie. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Barton (Mike) of Zionsville, IN, son, Jim Smylie (Tanya) of Heath, TX, and four grandchildren, Kate, Courtney, and Tyler Barton and Tucker Smylie.
