Mrs. Cummings, age 92, passed away on January 5, 2024, in her home at Aldersgate Retirement Community.

Mrs. Cummings was born at her family home in Hamburg, AR on May 28, 1931. She was welcomed by her parents, Sam and Lela Burgess, and brother Frank. She was soon joined by a surprise, Betsy, her identical twin who became her lifelong best friend.

Jayne lived a full and active life. She and Betsy were a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court at Hamburg High School.   Following graduation, the twins attended nursing school at Kings Daughters and Sons Hospital, where she met her future mother-in-law, who introduced her to the love of her life, Greyson Cummings. They were blessed with 65 years of marriage. Jayne continued working for many years as an obstetrics nurse at Kings Daughters. While devoted to nursing, she was also a busy mother of three, church pianist, and organist.

Mrs. Cummings moved to Meridian in 2018, making Aldersgate Retirement Community her home. While at Aldersgate, she met many new friends and enjoyed sharing her musical talents with other residents.

Mrs. Cummings is survived by her children, Walter Cummings (Janet) of Grand Junction, CO, Betsy Mauceli (Mike) of Greenville, MS, Mary Gilmore (David) of Meridian, MS, grandchildren, Marshall Gilmore (Mary), Mary Katherine DeBardeleben (Alex), Laura Beth Gilmore, Sam Cummings; step-grandchildren, Anna and Michael Mauceli; and great-grandchildren, William and Harris Gilmore, and Andy and Kate DeBardeleben, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Greyson M. Cummings, parents Sam and Lela Burgess, brother Frank Burgess, and sister Betsy Pope.

Visitation will be from 10-11 am, prior to the memorial service, in the sanctuary of First Christian Church.

The family would like to especially thank the Aldersgate staff, Accent Care, and Rita Darden for their care, love, and support.

The family suggests memorials be made to First Christian Church, the Aldersgate Sunday Fund, or the charity of your choice.
