Jeff Dale Martin

Graveside services for Jeff Dale Martin, 93, of Leland will be at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, February 6 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.  He died Thursday, February 4 at Washington Care Center. 

Mr. Martin was born in Vardaman, MS on November 16, 1922 the son of Mike Carroll and Addie Mae Hardin Martin.  He attended Vardaman High School where he played football.  After high school he worked at a sawmill before he served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, primarily serving in the Pacific Theater aboard a Destroyer Escort.  

Mr. Martin worked for the City of Leland for over 30 years.  He was superintendent of the Light and Water Department for a number of years prior to his retirement.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman and lifelong fan of the Ole Miss Rebels.  Upon his retirement he became an enthusiastic golfer, sinking two holes-in-one and nearly shooting his age on several occasions.  Mr. Martin had compassion for all people, regardless of their backgrounds.  He dearly loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Edith Mae Martin in 2008.  He is survived by a son, Jeffrey Hampton Martin of Germantown, TN; sister, Mary Ruth Johnson of Houston, MS; granddaughter, Hallie Elizabeth Martin Stoltz of Slidell, LA; grandson, Jeffrey Hampton Martin, Jr. of Hattiesburg, MS; and 2 great grandchildren, Alan Joseph Stoltz  and Connor David Stoltz.
