Jimel Shamoon Jr. was born December 10, 1953, in Greenville, MS to Elizabeth Mansour Shamoon and Jimel Shamoon Sr. He passed from this life on Friday, October 13, 2023, at his home on Highland Plantation at the age of 69.
Jimel graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School and attended Mississippi Delta Community College pursuing a nursing degree, until he was called home to Greenville to join the family business.
In September 1982, Jimel accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was a faithful servant of the Lord for 41 years, serving as a Deacon at Son Flower Church in Anguilla where he and his family were active members for 32 years. His greatest joy came from ministering to inmates through End Time Harvest Prison Ministry at the Issaquena County Correctional Facility and Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman for over 15 years.
He married Susan Lee Bell in January 1986, and in that same year, they founded Shamoon Advertising & Marketing. Shortly afterwards, he opened Shamoon Shoes in the Goyer Shopping Center in downtown Greenville. After his daughters were born, he closed his shoe store and began leading the outside sales division in their advertising business, which gave him flexibility to attend his daughters’ activities. His daughters were the light of his life and the focus of his attention.
Jimel traveled across the Mississippi and Arkansas Delta, building the client base for Shamoon Advertising. His work philosophy was to excel in customer service by meeting his clients face to face, which built many strong friendships that he enjoyed for many years.
He was known as a man of quiet strength and amazing faith, with a kind and gentle heart and a delightful sense of humor. He would share the Word of God with everyone and take every opportunity to pray for those in need of prayer.
The ultimate host, he loved entertaining family and friends, which included cooking and sharing his family’s Lebanese recipes.
Jimel was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by Susan, his wife of 37 years, daughters Katherine Adele Shamoon of Greenville, MS and Emily Anne Shamoon of Brandon, MS; brother David George Shamoon (Lisa) of Greenville; sister Cecelia Shamoon Thomas of Forest, MS and brother Michael Mansour Shamoon (Jackie) of Shirley, Arkansas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. with visitation at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at First United Methodist Church in Greenville. Pastor Chris Vowell and Pastor Harvest Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home in Greenville.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to St. Jude Hospital or the charity of your choice
