Jimmie was the oldest child of James and Thelma Stevenson. She lived her early years in Winston County before moving to Glen Allan in 1950. She attended Glen Allan Public Schools and graduated in 1962. She was a cheerleader, a Bearette dancer, a member of F.H.A., and on the yearbook staff.

Jimmie married the love of her life, Raymond O. “Smitty” Smith, Sr. on August 4, 1963. They remained sweethearts and best friends and were happily married for 51 years until Smitty’s death in 2014.

After her youngest child started school, Jimmie began working during the summers with Dr. Aubrey Harris and the Mississippi State University Entomology program in research cotton plots. She was employed with Western Line School District Food Services for 34 years before retiring at age 77. She cared for and served countless individuals from infants to the elderly as a nursery Director, a Sunday school teacher, a youth group parent, a Vacation Bible School leader, a bereavement committee chairperson, and a prayer warrior.

She had a gentle soul with a heart of gold and found great joy in helping and taking care of others.
