Funeral services for Jimmy H. Jones, 84 of Indianola will be at 3:00 p.m., Monday, January 4 at Indianola Church of Christ. He died Thursday, December 31 at South Sunflower County Hospital. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Card Funeral Home.
Jimmy was born March 15, 1931 to the late Luther Jones and Ada Love Tharp Jones in Shaw, MS. Growing up Jimmy started out farming, eventually becoming a carpenter working with his older brother Reginald. Jimmy and Reginald helped build the original church house for the Indianola congregation. He continued carpentry work until his retirement.
After becoming a Christian as a younger man, he was active in church work as a member of Indianola Church of Christ. Jimmy served the church as deacon for a number of years and as song leader for many years. He was asked by the church in Belzoni to lead singing for them for a period of time and offering encouragement helping that congregation to grow.
Following his retirement, Jimmy remained active helping other folks with repairs around their homes. He also did a lot of the maintenance around the church building.
Jimmy also was a missionary having gone to the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. Not only was he a longtime member of the Indianola Church of Christ, he was also our good friend and brother. Brother Jones will be sorely missed by all who truly knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Reginald and William Herbert and by his oldest daughter, Rhonda Jones Abney. He is survived by his wife, Elaine W. Jones of Indianola, daughter, Lynda Marlene Jones of Texas and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
There is a visitation one hour prior to services at the church.
