Jimmy passed away Wednesday 21 June at home in Longview. He was born 16 Sep 1947 in Merigold, MS to parents John Thomas and Lucille (Sexton) Muirhead. He was the next to last of ten siblings and one of six brothers. Jimmy lived most of his life in Mississippi, particularly the MS Delta. He married Martha Welch on 30 April 1966 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Greenville. After an abbreviated stint in the U.S. Navy, Jimmy returned to MS to work with his older brothers where he learned the trades of roofing and sheet metal fabrication.  His incredibly sharp mind and mathematics ability allowed Jimmy to flourish at his craft.  After many years of successful private business, he joined the MS Army National Guard in the mid-1980s. He converted to full-time AGR status for the MS Army National Guard first as a unit personnel clerk and later as recruiting and retention NCO. As in most everything he did in life, Jimmy excelled in the MS ANG and was the top-rated recruiter in the state of MS on more than one occasion. He retired from military service and then moved to east Texas in mid-2010 after losing his wife Martha far too soon in late 2009. He resided at Lake Cherokee for four years and then moved to the city of Longview after suffering a stroke that robbed him of his ability to speak but not of his love for life. For his last seven years, he resided at Arabella Independent Living where his smile, twinkling eyes, and hugs brightened the days of all who knew him there.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Martha, five brothers, William Muirhead, James Muirhead, George Muirhead, John “Skip” Muirhead, Charles Herbert Muirhead, and two sisters, Francis Reel and Patricia Evans.

He is survived by two sisters, Bessie Bonner and Ann Laney, two sons, Joel Muirhead and wife Jennifer of Longview, TX, and Curtis Muirhead and wife Rebecca of Brandon, MS, five grandchildren, Meghan, Lauren, and Meredith Muirhead of Longview, TX, Michael Muirhead of Pearl, MS, and Nathan Muirhead of Forest, MS,  three great-grandchildren David and Harmony Muirhead of Pearl, MS and Jordan Thomas Muirhead of Longview, TX, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friend Judy Summers.

Jimmy will be laid to rest beside his loving wife Martha in the Mississippi Delta alluvial soil not far from his birthplace in Bolivar County. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Wounded Warriors Project, or other charity of choice.
