Funeral services for Joanne Prophet Britt, 88, of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 31 at the First Baptist Church Chapel, Greenville. She passed away on Sunday, July 29 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Burial will be in the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Mrs. Britt was born on January 22, 1930 in Clarksdale, MS. She graduated from Greenwood High School in May 1947 and graduated from Bowling Green Business University’s Secretarial Department in January 1948.
After holding jobs in several cities in Mississippi Joanne retired from the Cox Law Office and American River Lines in Greenville in 1997. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Greenville and was a member of the adult choir for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Josephine Prophet, her brother, Bill Prophet, her husband, Gene Britt and her infant daughter, Tami.
She is survived by three sons, David Britt (Lynn) of Madison, Randy Britt (Cindi) of Greenville, Tommy Britt of Tulsa, OK; daughter, Cathy Lee (Wayne) of Vaiden; eight grandchildren, Nathan Britt, Taylor Britt, Chris Britt (Maggie), Courtney Mascagni (Scott), Betsy Beard (Jeremy), Karie Overton (Brad), Brandy Click (Daniel) and Britany Dowis and seven great grandchildren.
There will be a visitation one hour prior to the services at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any memorials be made to the First Baptist Church’s TV Ministry, P. O. Box 1163, Greenville, MS 38702.
