Funeral services for Joel Benton Brown 78, of Hollandale will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 29 at the Boone Chapel in Hollandale. He died Tuesday, March 26 at his home. Burial will be in the Hollandale City Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
Mr. Brown was born on July 12, 1940 in Marion County, MS to Leek Benton and Annabell Pope Brown. He graduated from Hollandale High School in 1959 and joined the U. S. Navy shortly thereafter serving for 4 years. He worked at Sunflower Food Store for a short period before becoming employed at the Hollandale Oil Mill where he worked until his retirement, and retired as manager.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, David, Kirby, Richard, Billy, and Donald; two sisters, Jean and Beverly (Darlene); a sister-in-law, Betsy Brown Lindsey; three nephews, Walter, Jr., Randy, and Ricky and by a niece, Stephanie.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Ruth Brown; two daughters, Cynthia Brown of Kingsport, TN and Tammy Brown (Mike) of Greenville; a brother, Walter Brown of Clinton, MS; sister, Shirley Palmer (Bobby) of Florence, MS; four sister-in-laws, Joann, Kathryn and Janice Brown and Pat Chalk; brother-in-law, Jimmy Newman (Donna) of Little Rock, AR; four granddaughters, Bridget Beliew, Shannon Brown, Marysea Reynolds and Jordan Arnold; a grandson, Christopher Reynolds; two great granddaughters, Kristen Beliew and Annabell Davis and by many nieces and nephews that he loved very much.
His nephews will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be J. W. Reynolds, Dee Perkins and Chris Sellars.
There will be a visitation from 12:30-2:00 p.m., Friday at the Boone Chapel in Hollandale.
