Funeral services for John Kennith “Kenny” Downs, Jr. will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 25 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. A visitation will be held from 1:30 – 3:00 before the services. He died Friday, February 21, 2025 in Leakesville, Mississippi. Burial will follow in the Leland-Stoneville Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
Kenny was born February 12, 1977 to John Kennith Downs, Sr. and Sandra Askew. He was the owner of two family-operated businesses in Leland, Downs Repair and Downs Trucking. Everyone who knew him knows he had a big heart and made friends with everyone. He helped anyone who needed help. He was a devoted and loving father, husband, and papaw. His whole life revolved around his children and grandchildren. He was a big ole teddy bear with his grandkids and did whatever they asked. He loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Renee; 6 children, Jay (Tori), Kelsie (Vence), Zack (DeAnna), Brianna Taylor, Austin, and Matt; 4 grandchildren, Dalton, Ivy, Emma, and Stratton; his mother, Sandra; a sister, April (CJ); 2 brothers, Chris Matlock and Larry Turner; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, grandfather, grandmother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and brother, Billy Matlock.
