John Ross Underwood, 66, of Greenville, Mississippi passed away at home on Sunday, February 19, 2023. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 21 at 2:30 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church prior to the service at 3:30 p.m. Burial will follow at the Greenville Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Mr. Underwood, the son of the late Samuel Ross Underwood, is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Cynthia Ingram Underwood, his mother, Martha Hammond, his two children, Roane Miller (Caylon) of Dallas, TX and John Owen Underwood (Chelsea) of Texas City, TX, his five grandchildren, and his siblings, Lee Underwood (Candi) and Ann McClendon (Joe).
John Ross grew up in Arcola, MS and graduated from Deer Creek High School. He continued his education at Mississippi State University, where he received a degree in Agricultural Engineering and Economics. He worked with his father and brother at Underwood Farms until he joined Greenville Gravel Company in the late 1990s.
Well-known for his entertaining sense of humor and storytelling, John Ross was an avid outdoorsman, often going on out-of-state adventures with friends and family. He enjoyed sharing his love for hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He traveled great distances to be involved in their lives; he never missed a special event or birthday party.
