Funeral services for Joseph Wood Cockerhan, 87, of Leland will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2013 in the chapel of First Baptist Church, Leland. He died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at his home. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
Mr. Cockerhan was born in Leland where he graduated from Leland High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Army and was in the 7th Division serving during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge he graduated from Mississippi State University. He then worked at the Greenville Air Base and married Martha Jo Butts. They later moved to Marianna, FL where he was a flight instructor returning to Leland where he was an insurance salesman and engaged in farming. He was a member of Leland First Baptist Church, Leland Lions Club and the Civil Air Patrol.
He is survived by his wife Martha Jo Cockerhan of Leland, daughter, Susan C. Hughes of Ty Ty, GA and a granddaughter, Merredith Hughes of Savannah, GA.
The family will receive friends immediately after services.
