Kate Jane Johnson Cooper

Funeral services for Kate Jane Johnson Cooper, 98, of Greenville will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 17 at Lake Washington First Baptist Church in Glen Allan.. She died Sunday, February 14 at Allegiance Specialty Hospital, Greenville. Burial will be in County Line Cemetery. 

Kate was born on March 17, 1917 near West Point, MS and moved to the Delta with her parents in 1929. They moved to Issaquena County later where she met and married C. S. “Boots” Cooper. She helped her husband in farming and commercial fishing. She also drove a school bus for twelve and a half years, worked as a store clerk and was a factory worker for 22 years. 

Kate was preceded in death by her mother, Lyda Jane Harpole Johnson in 1949, and infant daughter in 1950, a granddaughter, Merrie Jean Cooper in 1964, her father, Rothwell Womack “Rock” Johnson in 1965, her husband of forty-two and a half years in 1976, her oldest son, Robert Johnson Cooper in 1998, her son, Dewey Harpole Cooper in 2002, daughter-in-law, Juanita Carmens Goss Cooper in 2006, her son, James “Jim” Spencer Cooper in 2010, daughter-in-law, Rita Jean Greenlee Cooper in 2012, grandson, James “Jimbo” Spencer Cooper, Jr. in 2013, and daughter-in-law, Sarah Lee Kent Cooper in 2014. 

She is survived by a son, Bill Cooper and his wife Mary Frazier Cooper, daughter, Jane Cooper, daughter-in-law, Margie Louise Kent Cooper, 2 granddaughters, Ruthie Cooper Muir (Tom) and Sherry Cooper Pell, 7 grandsons, Chuck Cooper (Becky), Ricky Cooper, Dewey Cooper, Jr., Bubba Cooper (Donna), Wayne Cooper, Bill Cooper, Jr., and Jon Cooper (Christey). She is also survived by 4 great-granddaughters, 8 great-grandsons, 9 great-great granddaughters and 2 great-great grandsons. 

There will be a visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 16 at Lake Washington First Baptist Church in Glen Allan. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Center Grove Baptist Church, 1784 Center Road, Maben, MS 39750.
