Memorial services for Kathleen Taylor Cochran Sturtevant of Richmond, VA formerly of Kensington, MD; Elkhart, IN and Sunflower, MS will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016 at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Indianola. She went to her eternal rest on July 7, 2016. She will be laid to rest next to her first husband, Lee Dixon Cochran at Indianola City Cemetery.
She was born in Glendora, MS on December 7, 1922 to Emma Scruggs Taylor and Richard Winston Taylor, and was also reared by her aunt, Kathleen Scruggs Clark Williams. After school years, fully enjoying the social life of the Mississippi Delta, Kathleen supported the war effort by working as a secretary at Air Force bases in Greenville, MS and Harlingen, Texas where she became the de facto purchasing agent. Looking for more adventure, Kathleen moved to Washington, DC where she was a private secretary in the CIA and then to the president of the American College of Surgeons where her vocabulary and short hand skills were certainly challenged. Kathleen then met and married Lee Dixon Cochran, ironically from Doddsville, MS which was two miles from her childhood home.
Mrs. Sturtevant is preceded in death by her husband, Lee and her second husband, William Beard Sturtevant, her parents and brothers: Richard Winston Taylor, Jr., James Edwin Taylor, Eugene Young Taylor and Maury Scruggs Taylor.
